Great Strides 2012

Hey everyone! It's time again for the Great Strides National Walk Event for Cystic Fibrosis! Team Walk to Breathe is back and more determined than ever to FIND A CURE FOR CF. However, it's more than just about a disease. It's about completely changing the lives of thousands of people forever.

In 1989-1990 cystic fibrosis was the first genetic disease to be sequenced, enabling scientists to understand the underlying genetic mutation that causes CF. Since then billions of dollars of money and countless hours of research have been poured into finding a cure for cystic fibrosis, the most common genetic disease in America. In 2012, 20 years of hard began to pay off with the announcement of Kalydeco, the first drug to EVER treat the underlying genetic defect of a genetic disease. While this is extremely promising, this drug is only effective in 4% of those with CF. There is still 96% of the CF population that is waiting on a cure, including Missy!! I firmly believe and hope that a drug for the rest of the CF population can be discovered in Missy's lifetime!
